Open Parly is a media platform that provides live coverage of parliamentary sessions, press conferences and many other political events. It targets youth aged 18 – 35 and was the first media in Zimbabwe that provided full coverage from the Parliament. That has made Parliament more transparent and through other innovative productions such as “Dear MP, “Meet your MP” and Twitter spaces Open Parly has managed to establish platforms for discussions between Members of Parliament and young citizens.
Zimbabwe is heading towards election with presidential and parliamentary elections on 23 August 2023. Open Parly will of course cover the political campaigns as well as the election, providing a platform for participation and ensuring that youth get access to reliable information and thus stand a better chance of making an informed decision on election day.
The project has expanded by launching local ’Open Councils’, as well as on the continent with the launch of Zambia (Open Parly ZED), Nigeria (Open Parly Nigeria) and Somalia (Kalfadhi.com).
In this video, Daniel Chikundu and Lynette Manzini explain what Open Parly is all about. If you want to learn more, visit openparly.com or go to @openparlyzw on Twitter and Facebook.
