Rwanda, Somalia and Ethiopia Journalism education exchange programme

Staff from nine university journalism schools in Ethiopia, Somalia and Rwanda participated in an academic journalism education exchange programme in Ethiopia 5-9 June this year. The weeklong exchange was organised by the Fojo Media Institute and hosted by the Fojo-IMS Ethiopia media programme.

Gender study launched in Somalia 

A new study, that will be distributed to all media houses in Somalia, highlights opportunities and gaps in laws and regulations on gender equality in the media and suggests areas of development. The study was presented and launched in front of media directors and practictioners, civil society members and government officials in Mogadishu earlier this week.

Supporting community radio sustainability in Ethiopia

Community radio remains Ethiopia’s most accessible medium, spanning rural and marginalized areas despite the digital media surge worldwide. However, there’s a widespread lack of sustained support and training in long-term media management. The Fojo – IMS training, integrating theory and practice, addressing business and media development, emerged as a highly valued initiative.

Open Parly brings the Parliament to the people of Zimbabwe

Open Parly, a media platform in Zimbabwe, offers live coverage of parliamentary sessions, press conferences, and various political events, focusing on engaging the 18 to 35 age group. It was the pioneer in providing comprehensive coverage from Parliament, enhancing transparency. Innovative projects like ”Dear MP,” ”Meet your MP,” and Twitter spaces have facilitated discussions between Members of Parliament and young citizens.

Gender and news media in Bangladesh – the way forward

The Bangladesh Gender Equality seminar in Dhaka on April 17, 2023, organized by MRDI and Fojo Media Institute, addressed the importance of gender equality in news media and strategies to retain women journalists in the sector.

Media Tech Hub partners’ forum

Transparency International Kenya (TI-Kenya), established in 1999, aims to foster a corruption-free society through good governance and social justice. In collaboration with Fojo Media Institute, they’re currently executing The Media Tech Hub. This platform brings together journalists, software developers, researchers, and creatives to innovate solutions promoting transparency in public service delivery through accurate media reporting.
