In moments when journalism education truly makes a difference, the impact speaks for itself. Following the 2025 Rural Reporting Workshop, Harare Polytechnic, a valued partner in Fojo’s work to strengthen journalism education in Zimbabwe, shared this reflection. Their words nicely capture not only the significance of the workshop, but also the deeper purpose behind Fojo’s mission: to empower, connect and inspire a new generation of storytellers.
“The School of Journalism and Mass Communication extends its heartfelt and profound gratitude to Fojo Media Institute for their unwavering support, visionary partnership and belief in the power of storytelling to inspire transformation.
Their contribution did not merely facilitate the 2025 Rural Reporting Workshop; it elevated it into a defining moment for both the students and the institution. Students found more than just story ideas; they discovered their purpose as journalists.
This life-changing experience, made possible through Fojo’s support, positioned students at the frontlines of climate storytelling and community engagement, where the stories are raw, the resilience is real and the responsibility is urgent.
This partnership has empowered a new generation of storytellers who now understand that journalism is not just about recording facts but about amplifying voices, preserving dignity and building hope.
In doing so, Fojo has not only supported journalism education, it has nurtured humanity, lit beacons of possibility in rural Zimbabwe and anchored the future of climate-conscious reporting in the hearts of those who will lead it.
We are grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute to the climate reporting of the students at Harare Polytechnic — one of several institutions partnered through formal MoUs – as part of the Strengthening Media Through Journalism Education Programme in Zimbabwe.
