The emergence and rapid proliferation of Covid-19 made the implementation of the 6th Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP) the most extraordinary since the initiative’s inception in 1995. Yet, despite the pandemic, the media sample was the highest ever. The research was implemented by 116 teams and covered 30,172 stories published in newspapers, broadcast on radio and television, and disseminated on news websites and via news media tweets.

The research was implemented by 116 teams and covered 30,172 stories published in newspapers, broadcast on radio and television, and disseminated on news websites and via news media tweets.

Breaking gender stereotypes in Myanmar news media (English, 2017)

The study has been carried out with a view to being replicated and repeated each year, as a way of tracking media’s progress on this issue. The objective is to see Myanmar participate in the next ‘Global Media Monitoring Project’ (GMMP) in 2020, which is a worldwide media monitoring, research and advocacy project implemented collaboratively with women’s rights organizations and researchers across the world. GMMP affords the opportunity to assess how far the vision for media gender equality has been achieved, and identifies persisting and emerging challenges.

Gender monitoring in the Myanmar news media (English, 2017)

The results of this media monitoring project aim to fill a gap in the media development process, and assist with building capacity among media professionals and institutions to use the media as a tool to advance gender equality. Furthermore, is also aims to build local capacity for conducting gender media monitoring research with a view to participating in the next Global Media Monitoring Project in 2020.

Räkna med kvinnor – GMMP (Swedish, 2020)

Räkna med kvinnor 2020 är en nationell rapport baserad på den sjätte globala nyhetsstudien Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP) som koordineras av WACC, World Association of Christian Communication. GMMP har genomförts vart femte år sedan 1995. Studien är unik, eftersom nyheterna undersökts på samma sätt över hela världen, samtidigt. Räkna med kvinnor 2020 publiceras i samarbete med Medieinstitutet Fojo, med stöd av Jämställdhetsmyndigheten och innebär ett trendbrott för Sverige. För första gången på 20 år ökar andelen kvinnor i svenska nyhetskanaler. Det finns flera exempel på svenska redaktioner och redaktionsledningar som har rutiner för att skapa en bättre könsbalans i sina nyheter och vissa integrerar även andra representationsfrågor i sitt nyhetstänk. Tidningar på både riks- och lokalnivå har systematiserat sitt arbete.
