Students in Rwanda form gender clubs to create awareness about equality

Hem/Nyheter/Students in Rwanda form gender clubs to create awareness about equality

Only around 25% of journalists in Rwanda are women, they are often assigned to jobs with less status than men. Reports of sexual harassment in the media sector are very common.

To be better prepared to address these issues, students at the Rwanda Media Programme’s four partner universities have formed Gender ClubsBoth male and female journalism students and lecturers have joined.

The aim is to create awareness concerning gender equality and equity among fellow students and lecturers as well as advocate for gender sensitivity at school and in future workplaces. The students will arrange workshops and discussions on gender issues, and beyond that, the clubs can serve as safe spaces. The journalism students are also publishingender stories.
