The Ny Kollega project will continue to broaden perspectives within Swedish journalism by integrating foreign journalists into Swedish newsrooms. The initiative is led by the Fojo Media Institute at Linnaeus University, and its continuation is now made possible through a private donation of 1.95m SEK.

“Over the past five years, Ny Kollega has established itself as an invaluable programme, both for the journalists who receive training and professional networks in Sweden, and for the newsrooms that gain new perspectives and skills,” says Daniel S. Ogalde, who manages the project.

Ny Kollega aims to harness the expertise that foreign-trained journalists bring with them, and help them adjust to the Swedish media industry. Through a nine-month training programme, up to fifteen participants per cycle are offered tailor-made training in Swedish media ethics and language skills, followed by a five-month paid internship in collaboration with the project’s partners SVT, Schibsted, Bonnier News, Sveriges Radio and Stampen Media.

Particular focus is placed on building bridges to the labour market and making participants employable in Swedish newsrooms, in order to meet the need for broader representation and perspectives. The new donation, made possible by Nina von Koch, means that Fojo can now develop the concept further.

“This donation allows us to continue offering free and accessible education for journalists from all over the world and, with more diversity, strengthen the Swedish media industry,” says Daniel S. Ogalde.

The programme is run as a unique collaborative project between academia and the media industry. The ambition is for Ny Kollega to continue to function as a stable engine for integration and talent acquisition within journalism.

“The participation of five major media houses, from both public service and the private media sector, shows how urgent it is for newsrooms to reflect the societies they cover. Ny Kollega is a concrete bridge between journalistic expertise, Swedish newsrooms and the perspectives that journalism needs. We are therefore very pleased that this donation makes it possible for us to continue developing this important work,” says Paul Rapacioli, Director of Fojo.

Read more about Ny Kollega here.

Fojo Media Institute secures donation for the Ny Kollega project, integrating foreign journalists into Swedish newsrooms through practical training.

[20
["post-4463","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sweden
["GET
