Their mission? To weave gender equality into the very fabric of journalism education, boost female enrollment, and transform the landscape for women\u2014both during their studies and in their future careers.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, only about 25% of Rwanda\u2019s journalists are women. Talented individuals often find themselves relegated to less senior roles compared to their male counterparts and sexual harassment remains distressingly common within the media sector.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Gender Clubs serve as catalysts for change. They create a vibrant space where male and female students alike engage in workshops, spirited discussions, and awareness-building activities. These clubs aren\u2019t just about theory; they\u2019re about fostering a supportive environment where everyone\u2019s voice matters. Female and male students participate with equal levels of engagement.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Women in Media Platform, one of three organisations championing gender equality with support from Fojo, offer targeted training sessions where students gain insights into sex and gender dynamics, equipping them to challenge stereotypes and advocate for parity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not just students; we\u2019re change agents!\u201d said Charlene Mindje, one passionate member of a Gender Club, who has also spread the word about the importance of gender work far beyond the Clubs themselves.\u00a0\u00a0In the picture, she is seen speaking at the African Women in Media Association&#8217;s conference in 2023. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the face of gender disparities among journalists in Rwanda, 200 students from the Rwanda Media Programme\u2019s four partner universities have come together to form Gender Clubs.
