It is critically important that African media learn to harness AI technology. I believe this will help us to be a positive influence in the continental and global media and information landscape,&#8221; said Dr. Abdisa Zeray, one of the Fojo-supported delegates from Addis Ababa University, after participating in the discussions at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.udsm.ac.tz\/web\/index.php\/schools\/sjmc\/the-14th-east-african-communication-association-(eaca)-conference-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The East African Communication Association (EACA<\/a>) 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in 2011, EACA is a leading organisation dedicated to promoting communication studies in East Africa. Its members include scholars, researchers, and practitioners from universities across the East African region and beyond. It provides a platform for sharing research, exchanging ideas, and fostering collaboration in the field of media and communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The theme of the 2024 conference, which takes place at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.udsm.ac.tz\/web\/index.php\/schools\/sjmc\/the-14th-east-african-communication-association-(eaca)-conference-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dar es Salaam University<\/a>, is on Africa and the global dialogue on media and communication and offers an opportunity for journalists and media professionals to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stay informed about the latest trends and challenges in journalism.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Network with leading scholars and practitioners in the field.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gain new insights and perspectives on the role of media in society.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contribute to the development of journalism in East Africa and beyond.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 200 papers were submitted and delegates from Fojo&#8217;s programme the <a href=\"https:\/\/fojo.se\/en\/projects\/rwanda\/\">Rwanda Media Programme<\/a>, and Somalia National University and Addis Abeba University, as well as the other many participants, have the opportunity to discuss themes such as;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The future of journalism in Africa<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The impact of technology on media and communication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Media ethics and accountability<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The role of media in promoting social justice and development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.udsm.ac.tz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The University of Dar es Salaam, School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC)<\/a>&nbsp;hosts the conference this year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cIn this gathering I have learned that due to the advancement of technology, the world is changing at a rapid speed.
