Fojo Media Institute, in collaboration with the Thomson Reuters Foundation, is excited to announce a series of investigative journalism trainings<\/strong> on exposing illicit financial flows (IFFs) in Sub-Saharan Africa. This multi-part training program will span several months, providing participants with in-depth knowledge and tools to investigate and report on IFFs. In Rwanda, the sessions are scheduled as follows:<\/p>

  • November 18th-22nd, 2024 (5 days)<\/li>
  • December 2024 (3 days)<\/li>
  • January 2025<\/li>
  • April 2025<\/li><\/ul>
    What Will You Gain?<\/h6>
    • Advanced Investigative Techniques:<\/strong> Gain expert knowledge from international trainers and mentors on uncovering illicit financial flows, including methods to track illegal earnings linked to criminal organizations, corporations, and individuals.<\/li>
    • Story Development:<\/strong> Learn how to build compelling, evidence-based stories focused on tax evasion, corruption, and illegal exploitation of natural resources.<\/li>
    • Extended Learning:<\/strong> The multi-part structure ensures participants receive continued support and development over the course of several months.<\/li>
    • Funding to Investigate Stories:<\/strong> Participants will receive funding support to investigate and develop their stories related to Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs) throughout the training period.<\/li>
    • Networking Opportunities:<\/strong> Connect with a network of experienced investigative journalists and mentors across the region.<\/li><\/ul>
      Eligibility Criteria<\/h6>
      • Must be a practicing journalist based in Rwanda with an interest or experience in investigative reporting.<\/li>
      • Extensive experience in journalism, particularly in reporting on finance, corruption, governance, or economic development.<\/li>
      • Strong command of written and spoken English.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
        Selection Criteria<\/h6>
        1. Story Pitch:<\/strong> Applicants are required to submit a well-developed story proposal related to Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs). The proposal should outline the key issue, its relevance to the region, and the proposed investigative approach.<\/li>
        2. Published Piece:<\/strong> Applicants must submit a previously published article that covers topics related to Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs), such as tax evasion, corruption, or illegal exploitation of natural resources etc\u2026<\/li>
        3. Proven Commitment to IFF Reporting:<\/strong> Demonstrate past or present engagement with issues related to financial transparency, tax evasion, corruption, or corporate misconduct.<\/li>
        4. Ability to commit to the full series of training dates (November 2024 \u2013 April 2025).<\/li><\/ol>
          How to Apply<\/h6>
          1. Provide a letter of intent (300 words max) explaining how this training will benefit your career and help expose IFFs in Rwanda.<\/li>
