Kidist Dejene teaches media literacy to her community
Kidist Dejene was a student at Haramaya University when she was enrolled in a media literacy training provided by neighbouring Bahir Dar University. The training changed her views and gave her another perspective, teaching her to be skeptical, checking content before sharing it or taking it in. She found it so inspiring that she wanted to share the knowledge with her community.
Rwanda, Somalia and Ethiopia Journalism education exchange programme
Staff from nine university journalism schools in Ethiopia, Somalia and Rwanda participated in an academic journalism education exchange programme in Ethiopia 5-9 June this year. The weeklong exchange was organised by the Fojo Media Institute and hosted by the Fojo-IMS Ethiopia media programme.
Supporting community radio sustainability in Ethiopia
Despite the explosion of digital media across the globe, community radio is still the most accessible medium in Ethiopia, reaching the largest part of the country including rural and marginalised areas. Common for all are a lack of stable support and training in long-term media management practices. The Fojo – IMS trainings, combining theory and practice and focusing on both business and media development, were a much welcomed initiative.
